So Long Bear Hug: Linus Ullmark traded to the Senators

Linus Ullmark was traded from the Boston Bruins to the Ottowa Senators for Mark Kastelic, Joonas Korpisalo, and the 25th pick in 2024 NHL Entry Draft (Dean Letourneau, C, St. Andrews College). A move that seemed inevitable with Jeremy Swayman becoming the Bruins permanent starter in the playoffs. As well as Ullmark only having one year remaining on his contract. Now both goaltenders will have chance to prove themselves as the clear number one starter on their respective teams.

This marks an end of era for what might be the best goaltender combo the NHL has seen in a long time if not ever. The two former teammates provided not only stellar goaltending on a nightly basis, pushing the other one to get better. But also a real joy and personality to a position that is usually lacking in that respect.

Kastelic is a 4th line center who will probably have to compete to make the roster after only averaging a little over 7 minutes of ice time. He does have a big body at 6’4 and that size could be useful in the playoffs. Korpisalo is a a veteran backup goaltender, starting in a career high 56 games last season with Ottowa He will most likely be the Bruins backup goaltender going into the 2024-2025 season.
